BIG STEPS OUTREACH NETWORK (BONET), CAMEROON

BONET was founded in 2010 and later registered in 2011 as a non-profit, youth-led organization committed to the fight against marginalization, inequality, HIV/AIDS and other STIs in Cameroon. The association provides a platform for the inspiration and empowerment of youths in Cameroon and beyond by enhancing and  promoting opportunities to support, connect and educate the youths in areas of sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR), community education empowerment and development, Good governance, and philanthropy. In this light, BONET has over the years reached out to over 50 000 young people through direct intervention with its programs and through multiplier effects of its community projects.

Under such values as honesty, responsibility, equality, BONET seeks to instill in every young person the motivation to be actively  involved  in  advocating  for  inclusive  policies  to cater  for the needs of young people especially orphans and vulnerable children, the physically challenged, socially excluded and those living  with  HIV/AIDS  and  to  enable  their  voices  to  be heard in all relevant platforms at the national, regional, continental and global platforms.

BONET believes in the power of collaboration to drive community development and works closely with other organizations in Cameroon that are advocating for development. Among others, BONET worked with Women for Change Cameroon to negotiate for youth and their priorities- sexual, reproductive health & rights, governance, youth’s & women’s empowerment, and security- to be included in the Post 2015 Agenda.

In the spirit of giving back to the community BONET regularly does communal visits to orphanages. Some of the orphanages visited include Amour Prochain Orphanage Bamenda and the Dan and Sarah Foundation.
